The 5-Principle Guide to
Using AI as Your Thinking Partner

Most people don't realise this, because the technology responds even when you treat it like a vending machine.

Five simple principles that will turn your AI into a partner that will make you a better thinker.

1

Context before questions

AI responds to the structure of the interaction, not your intention. Share what you're trying to achieve, what you're unsure about, and what matters—before you ask.

2

Assumptions before answers

Every question carries assumptions. AI will happily build on them, even when they're wrong. Surface what you're bringing into the conversation first.

3

Challenge before comfort

AI is very good at being agreeable. That limits thinking. Invite it to test your reasoning, point out weak logic, and show where your thinking is narrow.

4

Reflection before output

Output is cheap. Understanding is not. Pause long enough to ask: What am I really trying to solve? Why does this matter? What would success look like?

5

Judgment stays human

AI can surface patterns and explore possibilities. It cannot decide what matters, what is ethical, or what responsibility you're willing to carry. Those choices remain yours.
